When it comes to time management techniques, there's a lot of things you'll hear about again and again. I knew sooner or later it was inevitable I'd be talking about this subject, but up until now, I've resisted.
The last thing I wanted to do is churn out yet another those articles about making lists and prioritising your tasks.
Not that there's anything wrong with that advice. It's more that its been said and done so many times. It's also only of limited help.
Instead, what I decided to do is share some of the very best, but little known time management techniques that I use on a daily basis. They've served me incredibly well over the years and my clients love them.
New Time Management Techniques
With that in mind, today's podcast should provide you with something new AND highly practical. Because let's face it, writing more lists isn't going to help you find more time in your day.
In today's podcast we cover:
- Why time management is a matter of the mind
- The pomodoro technique
- Why I'm bored to tears of talking about lists
- How to manage your emails (complete system)
- Hacking your in tray (aka the 3 dot rule)
- File management and fast retrieval - Never lost a file again!
Never Lose a File Again
The last of the time management techniques I discuss is one of those surprisingly useful things you never realise just how good they are at the time.
I cover the basics on the podcast, but there's actually a bit more to it than I explained.
In order that you're not short-changed, I'm giving you access to a video I put together for members of my Academy programme. It's a short video that takes you through my file management system step by step. You can see how I structure everything and the thinking behind it all.
What I would add to this is don't underestimate it. It does require a completely new way of approaching your file management. It might not seem much at the time, but it will save you so much time in the long term.
The thing to do, just like the other techniques I discuss on the podcast, is try for 7 days and see what you think.
Oh, and come back and let me know how you get along. 🙂
